Head's Headline
As we approach the half term break, I wish to take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate the incredible commitment of our teaching staff. On behalf of our families and pupils, I offer my profound thanks for the tireless energy and professional devotion you have poured into exam preparation. It is evident that our Year 11 and Year 13 pupils have deeply appreciated the bespoke guidance and intensive revision workshops provided over these past months. We have been consistently impressed by the focus and resilience our pupils have shown throughout this demanding year; they have met every academic challenge with a maturity that speaks volumes about their readiness for the world. We remain their most fervent champions as they navigate their remaining exams, and we are immensely proud of the character and integrity they have developed during their time at St Clement Danes. We look forward with great anticipation to seeing them thrive, whether they are progressing into our Sixth Form or embarking on new, ambitious endeavours beyond our school gates.
On 11-17 May, our school community joined the national conversation for Mental Health Awareness Week. This year’s theme, "Action," served as a vital reminder that supporting our collective well-being requires more than just passive conversation; it demands tangible steps and proactive care. By normalising these discussions, we ensure that our pupils feel seen, heard and supported in every facet of their development.
It was a moment of immense collective pride to see our school featured in the Watford Observer recently under the headline: "Why St Clement Danes School is among the nation’s best." This external recognition of our exacting standards and holistic approach to education is a direct testament to the relentless hard work of our staff and the inherent brilliance of our pupils. We do not pursue excellence for the sake of accolades, but it is heartening when the dedication of our community is recognised on such a prestigious platform. Furthering these celebrations, we were delighted to receive a formal letter from Gagan Mohindra MP, congratulating the school on achieving the Gold School Games Mark for 2024–25. This award is a significant milestone, highlighting our ongoing dedication to physical education and competitive sport. It underscores our mission to ensure that every pupil stays active and engaged, understanding the intrinsic link between physical health and academic achievement.
In our whole school assembly last week, I spoke with pupils about a vital and collective responsibility: actively combating racism and anti-Semitic behaviour. Drawing inspiration from Dr Martin Luther King Jr., I shared a powerful quote that reminds us of our shared humanity: "We are all tied together in a single garment of destiny… I can never be what I ought to be until you are allowed to be what you ought to be." With this guiding principle in mind, I challenged our young people to move beyond being passive bystanders and instead become active allies.
We discussed how they can make a tangible difference by educating themselves, calling out unacceptable behaviour, and fostering inclusive relationships. This means speaking up and reporting bullying or unfair treatment whenever they see it, whether in school, online, or out in the community. I encouraged them to proactively read, learn about the histories and lived experiences of different ethnic groups, and bravely challenge stereotypes they encounter in the media or in daily conversation. Understanding the profound impact of prejudice is the first step toward dismantling it, and I am incredibly proud of how thoughtfully our pupils engaged with these themes. I look forward to working alongside you to ensure our school remains a safe, inclusive environment where every child can truly become who they ought to be.
Finally, I would like to extend a thank you to every individual involved in making our recent Year 11 and Year 13 Leavers’ Days such a resounding and memorable success. Both days were exceptionally well organised and served as a poignant, joyful celebration of the years these cohorts have spent within our halls. It was a genuine joy to see our pupils reflecting on their personal journeys, sharing memories with their peers, and enjoying these final milestone events with such spirit. These transitions are significant, and the grace with which our leavers conducted themselves was exemplary. As they move into their next chapters, they carry with them the values and traditions of this school. I wish all our pupils, staff and families a truly restful and restorative half-term break, and I look forward to our return as we finish this academic year with continued strength and purpose.

We're delighted to say five of you are a little better off this month, just in time for an indulgent Bank Holiday! We've just performed the latest draw for the SCDPA Prize Draw. We did the monthly draws for January, February, March and April as well as the first quarterly draw of the year.
As a result DH, AR, MD and SM all won just over £150 and PT won the quarterly prize of £310!
If you have no idea what this is about or if you've meant to subscribe but haven't got round to it yet, there is no better time than a leisurely long weekend to go to our webpage and follow the instructions.
Each entry is £1, set up as a monthly subscription. You can buy up to five entries per child attending SCD a month (so if you have three children at school you can buy up to 15 entries) and be in with a chance of winning: your monthly subscription enters you for 17 draws a year. We have had winners who only spend £1 a month for one entry, so it's an affordable bit of fundraising fun.
The more parents who subscribe, the larger the prizes, join now and you'll be eligible for the annual prize at the end of the year, which is huge! Details can be found here, fourth item on the page
Wishing you Draw luck and a sunny half term, SCDPA

At the beginning of this academic year, our school community achieved something truly extraordinary. Thanks to the phenomenal fundraising efforts of our pupils, who passionately rallied to raise £25 each in celebration of the Anchor Fund’s 25th anniversary, we secured a fantastic sum of money.
The Student Council recently met to discuss how this generosity could best serve the school, proposing to the trustees that the funds be spent on new indoor and outdoor water fountains, alongside additional bench seating. These practical additions will significantly improve daily school life, keeping our pupils hydrated and providing comfortable spaces to socialise during breaks.
To continue enriching and enhancing our pupils' experience, we rely immensely on our parents' help and support. Even a small monthly donation can make a significant difference to what we can achieve. Please support the school by contributing to the Anchor Fund today.
