Head's Headline
A huge thank you to our Art department for hosting the Art and Photography Exhibition on 19th June. The evening showcased the extraordinary work of our GCSE and A Level students, and it remains one of my personal highlights of the school calendar. It was wonderful to see so many students confidently sharing their artistic journeys with their families, friends, and members of the public, particularly those who took the time to talk me through their exhibits.
Looking ahead, I’m delighted to invite you to our upcoming Summer Concert on Tuesday 1st July. This will be another fantastic celebration of the talent within our Performing Arts department. The evening will feature performances from our 1st and 2nd Orchestras, the Jazz Band, and the School Choir, promising an uplifting and memorable experience for all. I encourage you to come along and support our outstanding young performers. Tickets can be purchased via ParentPay.
Diversity and Inclusion Prefect Toby L delivered a fantastic whole-school assembly in celebration of Pride Month. You can read more about it in our featured news articles below. A big well done to Toby and our Sixth Formers, who did an outstanding job raising over £400 for Outright International.
I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate our Year 11 and Year 13 students who have recently completed their examinations. This is a pivotal time in their educational journey, and we are confident their dedication and effort will be rewarded with strong outcomes. We were delighted to welcome many of our Year 11 students to our Sixth Form Taster day on 24th June where they experienced life in the Sixth Form and began preparing for the exciting road ahead.
This term has also been filled with enriching extracurricular trips that have enhanced our curriculum and provided students with practical, real-world learning experiences. Among the highlights have been the Year 8 visit to the Design Museum, the French Immersion trip, Year 9 and Year 12 Textiles students at Graduate Fashion Week and Year 7’s exploration of Kew Gardens. These opportunities continue to support student learning beyond the classroom and help to build well-rounded, curious individuals. For the latest updates on trips, activities, and student achievements, please follow both our main school Instagram page as well as our new St Clement Danes PE Faculty Instagram. You can also read our news articles below.
A very special mention also goes to Mr Garvey, a member of our SLT, who completed The Wall, a 70-mile ultra marathon along the challenging terrain of Hadrian’s Wall. Mr Garvey took on the course to raise money to purchase a specialist bike for those with severe disabilities as well as for Breast Cancer UK. It's an inspiring example of resilience and determination; values we deeply admire and promote within our school. Congratulations Mr Garvey!
A reminder that Culture Day takes place tomorrow, organised by our Sixth Form Senior Prefects, led by our Year 12 Diversity Prefect. Students will have the opportunity to wear cultural dress or colours and are encouraged to reflect their own identity or heritage. The event is also a non-uniform day, with a suggested donation of £1 via ParentPay, going to charities such as the Race Equality Foundation. Students are welcome to bring in food that reflects their cultural background to share with friends during lunch. Please remember, all food must be nut-free, and students should be mindful of allergies when sharing.
As we approach the final weeks of term, I feel an enormous sense of pride in all that our students and staff have accomplished. Your continued support as parents and carers is deeply appreciated, and I look forward to celebrating more successes together in the near future. The time you take to write in to say thank you to staff for curricular and extracurricular activities makes a huge difference to the staff and volunteers that support the school. Your material support with attendance at events, consultation evenings and your financial support for the Anchor Fund and Parents’ Association are all vital, not only in enabling us to maintain the outstanding provision at St Clement Danes, but also the very fabric of St Clement Danes as a community.
Thank you.

Headteacher, St Clement Danes School
On June 2nd 1921, a large number of boys and Master Mr Suggate visited the Philharmonic Hall to watch a film of Sir Ross Smith’s historic flight from the UK to Australia. In 1919 Sir Ross, his brother Keith, Sergeant James Bennett and Sergeant Wally Shiers completed the first flight from the UK to Australia in a Vickers Vimy-Rolls aeroplane. They collected a prize of A$10,000 that the Australian Government had offered to the first aviators to complete the feat. Sir Ross and his brother were present at the screening and the boys found their information and explanations very interesting and instructive.
The journey was completed in four stages: London to Cairo, Cairo to Calcutta, Calcutta to Singapore and Singapore to Darwin.
Sadly, Sir Ross and Sergeant Bennett were killed in 1922 when the plane they were testing crashed.
For over 20 years, the Anchor Fund has played a vital role in transforming the educational experience at St Clement Danes School. Established to go beyond what state funding can provide, this fund has enabled us to offer exceptional opportunities and resources to our students from Year 7 through to Year 13.
Thanks to the generosity of parents, the Anchor Fund has already contributed hundreds of thousands of pounds—funding everything from Astroturf pitches and science lab equipment to Chromebooks, music keyboards, and even air fryers for life skills lessons. These enhancements aren’t luxuries—they’re the tools that spark curiosity, fuel ambition, and enrich every student’s journey.
But we can’t do it without you.
To continue providing these vital resources and enriching experiences, we urgently need your support. Whether it’s £5 or £50 a month, every single contribution matters. Your donation - no matter the size - helps us bridge the gap and ensure our students have the best possible environment in which to learn, grow, and thrive.
Please consider making a monthly donation to the Anchor Fund today. With your help, we can continue to inspire excellence and provide opportunities that will benefit every student - now and for years to come.
