As we enter the final week of term, it’s a fitting time to pause and reflect on the incredible accomplishments of our school community throughout the academic year so far. From celebrating our students’ achievements at the annual Speech Day in September, honouring those who serve through our Remembrance assembly in November, commemorating the founding of our school, to the extensive range of activities including sporting events, extra-curricular programs, theatre trips, residential excursions, musical performances and debating competitions—there is so much to celebrate.
A particular highlight for me has been meeting with all our Year 7 students recently to present them with their Headteacher’s Commendations. These visits have been a wonderful opportunity to learn more about each of them, hearing their aspirations for success and what they have enjoyed during their first term at St Clement Danes and what we can do better.
Our Year 11 students also deserve recognition for their commendable attitude toward their mock examinations. Their hard work and positivity will undoubtedly set them up for success in the summer’s final exams.
On a broader note, I’m thrilled to share some fantastic news. As you may have seen, St Clement Danes has been ranked as the 5th highest-performing comprehensive secondary school in the South East and 117th nationally, including selective schools, by The Sunday Times. Being named on The Sunday Times Best Schools list for 2025 is a tremendous honour and a testament to the dedication and effort of our staff and students. Congratulations to everyone in our school community for contributing to this remarkable achievement!
Earlier this week, our Christmas Concert delighted everyone with stunning musical performances, showcasing the extraordinary talents of our students. A special thank you to Mr Butterfield and the Music faculty and to all those who helped organise such a magical evening.
The end of the Autumn Term would not be the same without the SCD tradition of Charities Week, and this year already promises to be no different! This year’s activities include a Krispy Kreme sale, Christmas Jumper Day and a lively Students vs. Teachers Dodgeball match. The final few days of term have seen students ‘kidnapping’ lessons, visiting Santa’s Grotto, an Elf Auction and various lunchtime competitions. Funds raised will support three exceptional causes: Pumpkin Wildlife Hospital, Mission EmployAble and Chiltern Neuro Centre, each making a meaningful impact in their respective areas.
Finally, I’d like to extend my thanks to all our parents, both new and longstanding, for their continued support throughout 2024. On behalf of the staff at St Clement Danes, I wish you all a joyful and peaceful Christmas season.

On 25th December 1939 the 450 or so boys and masters who had been evacuated from London at the outbreak of war sat down to enjoy a traditional Christmas lunch in the magnificent setting of New College Hall, Oxford. Guests included local dignitaries and some familiar faces from London and Christmas messages from others connected to the school were read out during the meal. The Christmas lunch was part of a series of entertainments laid on for the boys over the festive period including a variety performance, a trip to the pantomime and a lavish afternoon tea.
The Anchor Fund, established over 20 years ago by St Clement Danes School, enhances students' experiences from Year 7 to Year 13 by providing additional, high-quality resources that state funding cannot cover. Supported by regular parental donations, the fund has contributed hundreds of thousands of pounds over the years, enriching students' education through resources like Astroturf, science equipment, music keyboards, Chromebooks, and air fryers.
We need parents' help and support to continue enriching and enhancing our students' experience. Even a small monthly donation can make a significant difference. Please support the school by contributing to the Anchor Fund today.
Thanks to your generous donations, our students are now benefiting from circuit sets in their Physics lessons.

Our treasurer is not one for hyperbole, so it is an indication of how well the Winter Market went that when he wrote to give us an update on the figures for it, he described it as a 'storming result'!
This year we - you - managed to raise approximately £1000 more than last year. We'll update you in the New Year with final figures and what teachers have asked us to fund with the money raised. Thank you once again for everything you did to contribute.
As well as providing refreshments for the Christmas Concert this week, we've also been making plans for the New Year, with the possibility of a new event or two. We'll reveal all as soon as we can.
In the meantime we'd like to wish you a great break over the Christmas period and we look forward to seeing you soon in 2025!
